This is a very special piece for my Son-in-law Rob.
Rob was born and raised in Michigan
and is a staunch Michigan fan.
Luckily my daughter Hilary is a Notre Dame fan
as is our family.

I started this last year but set it aside lacking confidence to finish.
With the help of Celeste Begin and my confidence
level raising, I finished it this month.

Hilary had also requested I finish it and seeing
my daughter happy is a priority in life.
I can't wait to watch the two of them when
Michigan plays Notre Dame !

Just finished for my sister

My sister's church membership has been in the process
of building a new building across the street from
the original church. My sister wanted to help with fundraising
with the idea of selling products with art of the
new church on tote bags. I volunteered to do the art for her based on a drawing that was provided.
I revised it to be this representation since
the new church was so wide.

We're setting up a site page with cafepress.com so they may put the image on a much larger list of marketing products to raise funds.

I hope it works for the new church.

The new Elkhart Art league sign with the famous Artist Celeste Bergin

The new Elkhart Art league sign and graphic

As a new honorary Hoosier, the famous Portland Oregon Artist Celeste Bergin
is the featured silhouette tucked into the color at the top of the graphic.
I designed the logo, the sign and will also paint the finished sign
to be attached to the Elkhart Art League building.

The silhouetted art of Celeste made the graphic work.
Thank you Celeste for letting me use the image.
The new graphic is also going to be used in our newsletter.

I had fun with this one.
I love doing logos.

Art  Beat 2010
The booth looking east in  front of Century Center.
Thanks to Jacqueline Gnott allowing Ted and I to borrow
her art panels, the booth looked great.
That's Ted McFarland at the back of the booth.
He hates having his photo taken.
It was a good day for Ted to get public reaction of his Airbrush Art.
The booth was busy all day including a visit from the Mayor of
South Bend and his wife.
The public reaction was that Ted's work is magnificent and it is !

My special thanks to Celeste Bergin for all of
her encouragement in my producing art for the show.
Thank you Celeste.
I hope we get to participate next year and I hope the economy
is supportive. Art Beat was fun to do.

Anyone interested in Ted's art
may contact him through his email:

Jave and Britney
Britney had asked me to do the art to part of their wedding invitation.
It was featured on the card stock with the vellum overlay of the invitation
on top and tied with a bow.
The day that Britney picked up the art was pretty special. She liked it
so much she literally bounced out to her truck with joy.
That is really good for this Artist's ego.
She was on her way to show Jave right away.

Wedding invitations are special and helping them
have more meaning is a joy to me.
Any individuals interested in wedding art
may contact me at my email address.

Josh and Christie
Wedding art of Josh and Christie.
It took quite a while to do this art with a long story
about how I finally got the photo reference from
Josh. It was like pulling teeth. Josh kept bugging me
for completing the art but I had nothing to go by.
After pulling a death defying prank on Josh, I finally
received the photo reference.
I was really happy with how it turned out.
Josh must have liked it too since he brought over
ice cream when he picked it up !

For those interested individuals I do art for wedding invitations
and wedding gifts. Giving friends something special
on their wedding day is quite the gift.
My pricing fits budgets.

Katharine Leis
I always loved the photo reference of Kat.Kat has a relationship with a camera lense that evokes the mood she decides to portray. I just had to draw this pen and ink.
I hope everyone enjoys the drawing especially Kat.

" Kitchen Stuff "
This is a pen and ink with watercolor I just finished for an upcoming art show. It is the first serious piece I've done since my son passed away. With Celeste Bergins help, I have moved forward with my art. It is the one gift that I can share with the world. I hope this will be the beginning of a series of all new art.

Celeste Bergin

Celeste is a friend and mentor from Portland, Oregon.
She sets the example of the creative Artist bringing to life
wonderful oil paintings every day. She is quite well
known for her wonderful artwork including;
landscapes, portraits and individual inspirations.
I did this pen and ink with watercolor
to bring back the joy of the Art I love
with Celeste as a beautful inspiration to create.
You may find wonderful examples of
Celeste's art work here http://celestebergin.blogspot.com/
and her web site http://celestebergin.com/.
Thank you Celeste for helping me step back into the art world
that has been my love and the second center

Amelia Earhart

This is a series I started for my daughter Hilary, she doesn't know I started the series. I wanted to impress upon her the success of individual Women. My daughter has many talents some she's not discovered. Art and Music stand out, however being a new Mom she has little time for those things, other than what she and her husband Rob do with their daughter.

I have always been facinated about the story of Amelia Earhart. They still search for more discoveries of what happened to her and her co-pilot. I used her photo from her first aviators license from 1923 as the reference to do this pen and ink.

The plane in the background was Amelia's plane.

1923 was the same year my Dad was born
The Planet Bag Art

This is the art that was done specifically for Katharine Leis, the owner of The Planet Bag (theplanetbag.com) company. This was a joy to do since it was for Kat.

Everyone should really consider the amount of plastic and paper bags that go into landfills, the oceans, seas and lakes. If we each participate in using canvas bags that are reusable, we would help the earth.
Many states are outlawing the use of plastic bags.

The Planet Bag may be used until it is completely worn out and , since it is canvas, it does recycle and it is washable. When they are worn out, just replace them with new ones. They make a wonderful gift to give your friends to help save the earth.  Be pro active for the environment.
This is Katharine Leis

Katharine is a non-typical type A individual that strives to save the world while bringing joy and happiness.
She owns several companies, one of which is The Planet Bag (theplanetbag.com)  selling reusable canvas bags to replace the use of plastic and paper bags. I was lucky to be the Artist to draw the graphic for the bags.  ( It was a competition of thousands of other Artists ! Wink ! )

Kat, as she is called by many is also a writer, movie maker, Graphic Artist, photographer, web designer, Actress, Model, Brainiac, quick wit and muse. Her web site is ikatharine.com. She rarely sleeps since there is just too much going on in her head at one time, thank God it doesn't all spill out on the floor.

Kat should be on the 'David Letterman Show" to banter with  Dave. Hearing her life story, available on her web site would just mesmerize Dave.

The one stand alone quality about Kat is her Ego doesn't enter a room before she does. She's kind to animals, would raise money for every cause to save humanity and carries herself with grace. She has an infectious smile too.

I love her, someday I will get to meet her !
Hopefully before Dave does. This is a pen and  ink colored in Photoshop.

Colin Jon Hendrie

This is my son Colin at age 12. I picked this
photo because of the detail of colin's eyes.
They are green/blue and beautiful.

We celebrate his life, his accomplishments
and especially his heart. In the memory of
Colin , we keep him alive in our hearts every
day.  You will forever remain 20. I miss you Bud.

I love you,

Dad

The finished drawing of
Melissa Stener Spence

I finally finished the drawing of Melissa.
A great task for me. I used my second drawing
to practice on and decide what details to add.
I used my normal method of doing eye detail
and that was important to her portrait. This is
actually the third drawing I did. Memory of
method isn't always there.

I hope everyone enjoys the drawing.

Melissa Stener Spence

This is a pen and ink of Melissa. She is the creator/cartoonist of Plink Comics at plinkcomics.com.
Her comic evolves around the madcap world that surrounds her no matter the status.

Melissa also draws the cartoon mini mystery murder novelettes titled "XO" from silbermedia.com. Her friend Brian writes the stories and she interprets his ideas into characters. They are small enough to fit into a wallet or purse. Be sure to order your copies. I'd ask her to autograph them for when fame and fortune comes Melissa'a way !

I'm not quite finished with the drawing. I will post the finished drawing soon.

The old Coca-Cola Sign

This was a demonstration piece I did for my students at the Elkhart Art League.
I have a friend who has the actual sign in his shop, it makes great reference for
art pieces, although, his is in much better condition. I like things that are rustic
in nature, kinda like the artist doing the art. So I aged the sign.

The piece is 15 3/4" x 11 1/2". It is a pen and ink with watercolor. The piece is
on 140 lb. D'Arches bright white hot press watercolor paper.

This piece is available for purchase. For inquiries email at: scottlhendrie@gmail.com.

The  Last Golden Delicious

We had two Dwarf Golden Delicious trees in our backyard. The squirrels
used to steal all the apples. So I took the very last branch off one of the
trees to eat. In the process, I decided do a piece of art of the apple.
That first piece hangs in a very good friend's kitchen. I repainted it because
I really like the feeling for the composition.

I wanted to foil the squirrels appetite. I did eat the apple and it was
delicious.

This piece will be available for purchase on Ebay. The piece is 11" x 17".
The art is on 140 lb. D'Arches bright white hot press watercolor paper.
It is pen and ink with watercolor. Inquires to: scottlhendrie@gmail.com
